Chances are if you own an original model of the Gameboy, you also own Tetris, or have at least played it. The game remains one of the best, most addictive puzzle games of all time, and so it makes perfect sense that Nintendo is set to unleash a DS version on us, with a whole lot of extra features.

This version of the popular series is fully Nintendo themed, backgrounds feature awesome artwork and sprites from various Nintendo games such as Metroid, Zelda and Mario, definitely cool.

Even cooler are the new play modes which often go along with each theme, such as “push” mode is made for multiplayer action, as players create chains and combos, the other players screen will be pushed down making it harder for them to play, this creates a tug of war effect and allows for some heated matches.

Other additions include touch screen controls for more precise movement and full online play using Nintendo WFC. Finally, a way to have portable tetris on the go, and be able to challenge people from around the world at the same time.

A lot of the game remains the same, and this is a good thing, for any Tetris or Nintendo fan, this is an absolute must buy, online play and other goodies are merely icing on the already sweet cake.

Tetris DS is set to be released March 20th, 2006.
