Music and Games (Vol 1)
No I’m not talking about the guys that create the wicked scores and tunes for the games we love I’m talking about actual bands devoting there energy into remaking classic tunes or expanding on a story line and creating an original take on something we as gamers love.
So in this part 1 of many parts (I hope) as I go out and look for more bands like the two I’m going to mention right now. Dan introduced me to these two and as a gamer growing up with Megaman I can really relate to the first band. I highly suggest giving both a listen.

The first band on my list is The Protomen. Telling the story of Protoman and his uprising and eventual down fall in the battle fought between the good and the bad, or as any Megaman fan should know Dr Wily. The thing I really like about this band is each song builds upon the storyline, its not album you just pick a few songs and listen to it. You have to listen to the whole album to get perspective on the story. Honestly its one of the greatest pieces of music ever written taken from a video gamers perspective. Its hard, its soft, its angry its loud, its well very well done. Giv’er a listen I guarantee you wont be disappointed. They have a bunch of Free Mp3’s on there website.

Golden Moments: Hope Rides Alone, Unrest in the House of Light, The Stand Man or Machine, The Sons of Fate… all right essentially the whole album.

The second band on my list of greatness in video game music is a little California band that goes by the name The Advantage. These guys are geniuses simply put, they have released two albums full of remakes of classic NES tunes such as Super Mario Bros Underworld, Zelda Fortress, and The Goonies. Some of the tunes they give a bit more edgier rock sound to, but they are very good identical or better than the original version. I highly suggest checking these guys out. They have a bunch of free Mp3’s on there website.

Golden Moments: Goonies 2, Contra Snow Fields, Zelda Fortress, Pretty much all the Mega Man covers, Metroid Kraid’s Lair
That’s it for now; I hope to expand this to a monthly article if I can find enough bands to write about. If you know of any that deserve a good listening to, drop me a line. Till have a listen to these two great bands.
